Comparing Numbers
Episode #9: This episode is about comparing numbers.
Learning to organise collections to help work out the total is important mathematics for young children to learn. They can recognise the number of items in small collections just by looking. Children recognise small quantities just by looking, and then learn to think about how objects are organised to work out the totals. They also learn to match and compare quantities to work out which collection has more or fewer items.
Encourage children to notice how items are organised (like eggs in an egg carton) to help you to work out the total easily without needing to count. Asking children to predict and match collections to check whether more or fewer are needed is also helpful for their learning.
